November 10, 2022

The NSSA acting technical chair recently provided an update on what the committee has been busy doing in 2022, with a focus on the following:

Australian Standards Review

The NSSA represents the Security Screen Industry within the Standards Australia Review Committee CS-023, with 2 x Voting Members and 1 x Information only Member. Focus this year has been on the review of AS 5039 (Performance) and AS 5041 (Testing), which are being rolled into a single standard to be known in the future as AS 5039.1 and AS 5039.3. The final draft is underway with an expected release for public consultation later this year and a likely release date in 2023.

When the Standard is released for public consultation, the NSSA Technical Committee will review the draft and communicate the likely impacts to members along with any suggestions.

Make sure you keep an eye out for the draft release, as all NSSA members will be able to submit feedback. The NSSA will communicate to you the methods of replying to the draft, to allow you to have your say on the proposals.

Drafting is beginning on the section formally known as a AS 5040 (Installation) which will be later included as AS 5039.2.

Inclusion in National Construction Code

Work is beginning on the NSSA’s Proposal for Change to be submitted to the ABCB recommending AS 5039 be referenced within the NCC. This is a major project for the NSSA and will provide great opportunity for the industry!

The NSSA Technical Committee is available to answer any Member questions. Feel free to post your questions on the Facebook NSSA Member Community, this is a private, members only discussion area https://www.facebook.com/groups/2617552371902424
