Residents of the greater Brisbane area have seen an increase in unlawful entries over the past year. According to the Queensland Crime Statistics website, February of this year saw the highest number of unlawful entries in over five years.

March 2019 - March 2020 Unlawful Entry Statistics

In the 12 months up until April 2020, there was over 12,000 unlawful entries in Brisbane. More than one every hour on average, and an increase on the previous twelve months of 17%.

Drilling down into districts we do see that some Brisbane suburbs, in the past four months are worse than others. The southside has had 2,420 unlawful entries between January-April 2020 and the northside of Brisbane has seen 1,996.

Brisbane’s southside suburbs Upper Mount Gravatt, Inala, and Dutton Park are among the worst affected, while Brisbane northside suburbs, Hendra, Brisbane City, and Fortitude Valley make up the top three.

Interesting to note that there has been a significant decrease in April, perhaps because more people have been working and studying from home due to COVID19

However, as we now all look to return to our workplaces and our children return to school again, it’s important to be mindful of locking up our homes. Consideration should be given to the options available for you to protect your property while you are out. Security doors and window screens protect your home from the opportunistic burglar sneaking in through a window or door that has been left open. Compare the Prowler Proof range of solutions. We have Australia’s largest range of security and non-security screening products under the one brand.
